About us

Pixel Tweaks Publications

Pixel Tweaks Publications can take the pain out of self-publishing. From advice about layout & size to setting up and outputting to PDF. Along with getting the book to print, we can even arrange the production of any promotional material to help spread the word.

We can produce a book from your manuscript and prepare it to give to your printer of choice or recommend a few alternatives – including print-on-demand with no minimum run requirements. There’s an option to supply bookstores and online retailers (such as Amazon) directly via ‘dropshipping’ straight from the printers too.

self-publishing We encourage a face-to-face meeting to chat about your project to get a feel for the type of book you want to publish. We discuss the size, font and general design required and then we can give an estimated cost of production & print.

During the process, we like to keep the lines of communication open to produce the book you envision. We even encourage you to pop along and sit with us at the computer anytime you want a ‘hands-on’ session.

The self-publishing process isn’t as ‘painful’ or as expensive as one might think, and as long as everything is in place from the start, the whole process can take as little as six weeks to get from word processor to bookshelf.

The result is a professionally produced book. Ideal for local interest authors, short print run authors or to ‘test the water’ before sending the book to traditional publishers. Once the book is out in the wide world, you can soon recoup your initial costs and begin to make money from your literary creation. We can also convert your book for the digital market in a format for Kindle and other e-readers.

Based in the lovely Cumbrian town of Ulverston, on the edge of the English Lake District.

Russ

After working for several years for Educational Book Publishers, CGP Books, the decision was made in 2012 to go into the freelance market. The first author we were approached by was John Nixon to produce a book about the wartime use of a former airfield in Cumbria. Following the success of this book, Oh Mother, it’s a Lovely Place, we produced three more of his self-publish books – including one (Warbirds of Walney) that was shortlisted for the 2014 Lakeland Book of the Year Award, a great honour for everyone involved.

In 2012 we were also invited to team up with Sedbergh-based publishers, Handstand Press to work with them on their projects. In the years since then, we have worked on many books with Liz Nuttall, who is herself a published author (and ex-bookshop owner!).

Up to the present day, we have produced over 30 books either under our imprint ‘Pixel Tweaks Publications’ or for other publishers. In 2016 Russ published his own book to add to the list: My Acoustic Nemesis: Life before, during and after an Acoustic Neuroma

In Feb 2017 Russ was interviewed about his work with self-publishers and book production for a podcast with Paul Teague.
